Validity of an instrumental flight rating IR (A)

An IR (A) is valid for one year from the date of issuance or renewal, or the date of expiry if it has been revalidated in accordance with JAR-FCL 1.246(a).

If the IR (A) is restricted to use only multi-pilot operations, revalidation or renewal must be made in multi-pilot operations.

If the IR (A) has not been revalidated / renewed the preceding 7 years will require the holder to perform again the theoretical knowledge examination and skill test for IR (A) in accordance with the provisions of appendix 1 to JAR-FCL 1.210.

An IR (A) shall be revalidated for three months immediately preceding the expiration date of the authorization. Whenever possible, revalidation of the IR (A) be combined with the proficiency check for revalidation of a type or class.

The applicant for the revalidation of an IR (A), when combined with a class rating or type conduct a proficiency check in accordance with appendices 1 and 2 to JAR-FCL 1.240 and 1.295, or appendix 3 to JAR-FCL 1.240. In this case, the instrument rating is valid for the same period as the class or type rating, except for class rating revalidation of single-engine aircraft, in which the period of validity of the instrument rating will 12 months. Credits will be awarded in accordance with appendix 1 to JAR-FCL 1.246.

Procedures for renewal of a rating IR (A)

The applicant for the revalidation of an IR (A), when not combined with a class or type rating shall:

Complete section 3b of appendix 3 to JAR-FCL 1.240 and parts of Section 1 that are relevant to the flight to be carried out, and for multi-engine aircraft, section 6 of appendix 3 to JAR-FCL 1.240 as a proficiency check by reference only to instruments. This verification shall be at least one hour of flight. Can use a FNPT II or flight simulator, but at least each alternate proficiency check for revalidation of an IR (A) in such circumstances will take place in an airplane.

To make the verification the license and medical certificate must be valid. Please provide a photocopy of both documents.

If the check is performed on single-engine, rating IR (A) be restricted to single-engine. The price of the proficiency check is available at the price table.

If the rating has expired, once the proficiency check, must be request the Authority to update the rating, must pay the fee and fill the application form for more information on these procedures, see the section administrative procedures.
